Frequently Asked Questions

  • Do you accept insurance?

I currently accept the following insurance plans in Ohio: Anthem/BCBS, Oxford, Oscar Health, United Healthcare, Cigna, Aetna, CareSource and Anthem Medicaid. I also accept Aetna and Cigna for Kentucky residents. If you have another insurance plan not listed above, I can provide you with a superbill for you to submit to your insurance company for potential reimbursement.

  • What is a superbill?

A superbill is essentially a specialized statement outlining the services a client received. It will have all of the necessary information to submit to your insurance company for potential reimbursement.

  • Will insurance pay for therapy?

The short answer is yes. However, how much they pay varies on your insurance company and plan. I strongly encourage you to contact them before you schedule an appointment with me so that you fully understand your benefits. It’s also important to keep in mind that in order for your insurance company to reimburse you for the cost of therapy, I may be required to diagnose you with a mental disorder. You and I can discuss this more at your first session.

  • What if I can't afford therapy?

I offer limited slots for a sliding scale fee through Open Path (openpathcollective.org). Additionally, I accept vouchers from The Loveland Foundation.

  • Does seeing a therapist mean I have a mental illness?

The simple answer is no. Therapy is not only for individuals diagnosed with a mental illness. We all go through difficult life experiences that may seem unmanageable at times. Regardless of whether or not you meet criteria for an official diagnosis, therapy can help you address difficult problems in an effective way.

  • Do you provide in-person or online therapy?

Currently I am only offering online appointments to individuals located in Ohio, Kentucky, or Florida. All therapy sessions are conducted via a secure and easy-to-use telehealth platform (similar to Zoom or Skype).

  • What is your speciality?

I am certified in Perinatal Mental Health, which covers pregnancy through the first year after childbirth. I help these clients work through perinatal mood and anxiety disorders (or PMADs) such as depression, anxiety, trauma, and more.

  • What other types of clients do you see?

I work with adolescents (ages 12+) and adults (ages 18-64) who reside in the state of Ohio, Kentucky, or Florida. My clients may be struggling with various aspects of life including but not limited to: anxiety, depression, coping skills, self-esteem, and other stressful events.

  • Do you prescribe medication?

No, I am not a medical doctor. If you want to be evaluated for psychiatric medication, either contact your primary care physician or a psychiatrist. If you are already taking medication, I can coordinate care with your doctor.

  • What can I expect from my first session?

The first session is a time for me to start gathering information about who you are, what brought you to therapy, and where you want to go. I will ask you some questions, and I will invite you to share anything you’d like me to know. At the end of the session we will check in about how the session felt, how we might work together, and if you’d like to schedule another session. A typical session is about 60 minutes.

  • How often will we meet and for how long?

I encourage clients to come weekly or bi-weekly in the early stages of therapy. Typically, sessions are 60 minutes. How frequently you come and how long your sessions last are decisions we will make together after your first session, and revisit throughout our work together as needed.

  • Do you offer couples counseling, family therapy, or group therapy?

At this time, I am only providing individual therapy. However, please feel free to reach out and I would be happy to provide referrals for these services.

  • Can you write a letter for me?

I do not complete paperwork for disability, pre-op procedures, or FMLA; nor do I write Emotional Support Animals (ESA) letters.

  • What if I am in crisis?

This practice is unable to offer crisis services and does not offer after-hours availability. If at any point during our work together it becomes apparent that you are in need of a higher level of service, I will provide a referral list for better fitting services.
